PrinceWatercress plays Great Greed - Part 8 of 28


In this entry, we head to the Kim Chee camp now that someone the Kim Chee trust are with us, and we take on our second dungeon.

Now that you have Lolly Pop with you, you can now enter the village of the Kim Chee tribe. From here, you can talk to everyone. The inn is to the left of the entrance, and the magic shop is to the right. Flame 2 and Freeze 2 can be bought here; both of them are more powerful versions of the Flame and Freeze 1 spells from earlier, but they use the same amount of MP as their weaker versions (5 for Flame, 7 for Freeze). Because of this, keeping the weaker versions of the spells is completely unnecessary. The armory is to the northeast, and you can buy the Tin Shield to replace the Leather Shield.

As you talk to everyone here, you'll find out that there is a food supply problem within the village, and that Nikninja kicked them out of where they originally lived near the oasis. You'll also find out that they know about the Golden Pepper and that they can find it out in the desert.

The hut in the northwest corner is where you need to go. You'll not only find the Push spell, which inflicts the "Falling" status on enemies and stuns them for a while, but you'll also find the chief. Lolly Pop will mention that we need the Golden Pepper, and if we can destroy Nikninja in the castle of Oasis to the south, he will give it to us. He will mention that he took their castle there and did it for Bio-Haz, then asks if you accept this mission. Say yes, and he will give you the key to the castle.


To get around, you'll need to ride on the rafts that float along the water on specific paths. If you don't see one, look around for one and see where it goes, then get on it once you're able to. From here, you'll need to wait until you get close to where you need to get off, then move accordingly.

The Weiner is weak against Flame magic. It drops 28 Experience and 72 Gold. The Chikstik is also weak against Flame magic, and can cast Fly as well as Fire 1. It can also Dodge attacks It gives 30 Experience and 76 Gold, and has a chance of dropping a Sword, which is basically free money at this point.

You'll find the Tin Helmet in one of the chests here, in case you couldn't get one earlier.

Regain 1 restores 30 MP when used.

Eventually, you'll have to ride a raft down a couple of waterfalls in order to continue your journey. You'll need to do this to face Nikninja. Nikninja has 450 HP and 80 MP, and can cast Freeze 1. If you can cast Flame before he casts Freeze, the two spells can counter each other out, and neither person will damage each other. Physical attacks can also work, but watch your HP and heal when necessary, and cast Flame 2 if he keeps Dodging. When you beat him, he will give 250 Experience and 300 Gold, and will also have a chance of dropping a Med 1-10 scroll.

Nikninja will growl and die, and you'll be booted out of the castle so you can freely exit. Heal up and sell what you don't need, then talk to the chief again now that Nikninja is defeated to get the Golden Pepper. You can now cross the lake with the boat and defeat the Dragon, and the Kim Chee people will no longer have a hunger problem now that they can return to the castle.

Who's ready to NOT go to jail?

North of Herbal Village is the town of Tuna. When you enter the town for the first time, the women near the law making machine - yes, that's actually what it's called - tells you that you get to make the laws for today. You'll be taken to the law making machine, where you can change the three major laws for the day just by pressing the A button. The laws can keep you from exiting from certain directions, talking to the guards and entering certain buildings. Notice that you can't change the third law, which is "Talk To Guard." We're going to have to fix that. When you change the laws, a soldier hauls somebody off to jail, and you're forced to watch this every time you change the laws.

If you break a law, a guard runs up to you and demands a 200 gold fine. If you select yes, you'll play the fine; if you select no, then the guard threatens to take you to jail. If you select yes, you go to jail; if you select no, the guard leaves you alone. If you go to jail, you'll be let go when you press A on the cell bars, but you'll be booted out of town and your HP will be cut in half.

At the armory, buy the Scimitar. If you have the money, buy the Tin Helmet; otherwise, you'll have to wait until a little later to get a Tin Helmet for free.

In the house behind the magic shop, there will be a woman who wants to give something to her son in the jail, and notes that the law that keeps you from talking to the guard never change, and suspects that there may be a fault in the machinery. She will ask you to repair it. Say yes, and she will thank you before giving you 1500 gold.

In one of the other houses, the NPC's will tell you that the previous mayor has disappeared and that Sarg is now the town leader. 

The jail is in the northeast corner, but if you talk to the guard there, you'll get yelled at again, so don't. Instead, head back to the law making machine and talk to the girl blocking the door. For 500 gold, you can enter the building and fix the machine. Pay the 500 gold, then go in, walk up to the left switch and press A. You'll find out there is a lever. Raise it to fix everything. If you want, you can mess with the other levers so that you can keep laws that don't bother you alone. The center switch is for the second law, while the right switch is for the first. 

From there, you can change the laws by talking to the girl at the right side of the law making machine and paying 100 gold. This time, you'll be able to change the third law so talking to the guard does not get you in trouble. The guards outside don't tell you anything important, but the guards in the bigger house in the northwest corner will tell you that Sarg is out and that Sarg has set everything up the way that it is to keep peace in the town. A talk from the NPC's would clearly tell them they are not at peace.

Now that talking to the guards is no longer illegal, you can enter the jail in the northeast corner and talk to the guard to get access. Once you go down the stairs, you'll be able to talk to the woman from earlier, and her son will be able to tell you, should you face him and press A, that Dr. Bromide has been taken out of the town and to the Dragon Jail. Another person in another cell will tell you that those who have been taken to the Dragon Jail have ever returned, and yet another will tell you that the Dragon Jail is by the lake to the north, and that it is a scary place.

Fire Bug is weak against Freeze Magic and is strong against Fire Magic, and can cast Fire 1, which can do quite a bit of damage if it hits. It leaves 18 Experience and 66 Gold after defeat, and has a chance of dropping a Med 1-5 scroll.

Near the lake to the north is a boat house. The guy running the boat house tells you that there is a chance that you can get attacked by dragons and/or get lost if you get a boat. You'll also be told that without the Golden Pepper, the dragon will destroy you. If that is understood, then a boat is 500 gold. Do not get a boat yet; you will be wiped out if you do. If you select no, the guy at the counter will tell you that the Kim Chee tribe knows about the Golden Pepper. The Kim Chee tribe is to the west of the lake, but you won't be able to enter the village, as the guard will tell you that they only trust Dr. Bromide and his daughter before shoving you out. 

The Mel Mult is strong against Freeze magic and has a chance of running away. It has a chance of dropping a Med 2-5 scroll and gives 22 Experience and 68 Gold.

From here, you'll need to head back to Herbal Village and talk to Lolly Pop. When she finds out that her father as well as Spring Roll are both in Dragon Jail, she will join you. From here, you'll need to take her to the Kim Chee tribe. If you talk to her with the Party option in the status menu, she will tell you. On the way, Lolly Pop can randomly heal you during the battle, which is very nice.

PrinceWatercress plays Great Greed - Part 6 of 28


In this entry, we finally beat Crabby, then head down to a new land.

Back at Shishkebab, you'll need to talk to Crabby once you have both the plans and the family tree. When you do that, you'll expose Crabby for who he really is - one of Bio-Haz's men - and you'll have to destroy him.

Crabby has 300 HP, and he can cast Freeze 1, Bolt 1 and Sleep on you. He is also strong against Flame magic, so you can't hit him with Flame. You can use physical attacks as well as Freeze 1 to attack him. Heal up if your HP hovers anywhere near 30. Beating Crabby nets you 50 Experience and 200 Gold, and there is a chance he could drop a Med 2 scroll. Crabby tells Sam that there will be a time in his life where he will be cursed, then dies. You'll then met with Cabbage Head, who is basically re-elected at this point, then Cup Cake will tell you that you need to report to Dr. Bromide and that you must get to the gate at the border.

If you took the bribe from Crabby earlier, someone will immediately show up and take 500 Gold away from you as soon as you leave Cabbage Head's house. If you didn't, this does not occur.

Lola Leftover will come back to her home after you come back to Shishkebab and beat Crabby. 

The border is north of Shishkebab, and you can fight Hedworms and Artchokes. When you reach the door, you'll automatically cross the border. Cup Cake will stay behind to keep a look out for Bio-Haz in the nation of Sushi, then give you her Pendant, which is placed in the Collar. 

You'll then be in the nation of Chow Mein. Herbal Village will be very close, and Dr. Bromide's house will be in the center of town. The villagers will tell you that Dr. Bromide is a very capable doctor, and that in the town of Tuna to the northeast, the laws change every day. You'll also learn the names of two people who are going to be important very soon: Springroll and Lolly Pop.

You'll be able to buy the Leather Armor, which is better than the Wood Armor, at the store, so do that. You can also buy a Med 2 scroll as well as Bolt 1 for lightning damage at the magic shop. Bolt can also inflict the "Shocked" status ailment, which stops an enemy from moving temporarily.

When you enter the big house in the north end of town, you'll meet Lolly Pop, Dr. Bromide's daughter. She will tell you that the good doctor is not here, and has been called by Sarg of Tuna to come to the town of Tuna and has not returned from since. Springroll will show up and tell Lolly Pop that Dr. Bromide has been jailed in Tuna, then heads to Tuna against Lolly Pop's wishes. 

As for monsters outside of Herbal Village, Meakmush has almost 200 HP, and is weak against Freeze magic. Beating Meakmush will net you 20 Experience and 31 Gold, but keep in mind that it will take a while early in the game to beat one up. Onionhed can cast Poison, which can do a little bit of damage randomly. Defeating it gives 18 Experience and 53 Gold. Be ready to heal as well as end the battle as quickly as possible, as Poison only wears off either on its own or at the end of a battle. Frankbite is strong against Freeze magic and gives 14 Experience and 55 Gold, and has a chance of dropping a Med 1-5 scroll.

PrinceWatercress plays Great Greed - Part 5 of 28


At last, it's time for our first dungeon. By the time we're done, we'll be able to expose Crabby!

Northeast of Teapot Village is the abandoned record factory. If you tried to come here earlier in the game, you couldn't enter this place, but now that you know from Professor Condante that you kick the door, you can.


Going down the stairs near the start of this area leads to a dark area. You won't be able to explore this area yet, so just head east once you enter the Record Factory.

Topheavy can Fly, making it harder to hit. If you're at Level 9, this enemy is easy to beat. By the time you reach Level 10, however, you'll be able to beat this enemy as well as the other new enemies without getting hit. 14 Experience and 27 Gold comes from beating this enemy, and there is a chance that it will drop Heal 1 or a Leather Shield.

Artchoke can cast Flame 1, so be careful, even at Level 9. Artchoke can also put you to Sleep, and you'll have to wait to wake up before you can attack again. It gives 12 Experience and 22 Gold, and has a chance of dropping a Med 1-10 scroll.

Loli Dog is strong agast Freeze and can cast Stick, which can tangle you up in place temporarily and make it harder to attack. It gives 6 Experience and 26 Gold, and it can drop Cloth armor, which is useless.

Yam Jam can Dodge and cast Shove much like the Spud Bud, but it's just a slightly stronger version otherwise. It gives 8 Experience and 28 Gold, and can drop a Dagger, which you won't need.

I use Med 1 during battle and Heal 1 outside of it. This allows me to save MP for when I really need to use it.

The big records on the floor will spin you around, but if you walk onto the stylus when it comes your way, you can ride to the other side and get to where you need to go. You'll need to do this twice to get to an old woman, who reveals herself as Lola Leftover, who has resorted to singing in the factory after her stardom disappeared and the hits dried up. She is surprised that you have heard of her, and asks to sing a song. Let her sing her song, and you'll get the Debut Album. 

Lola Leftover will then tell you that she sees suspicious people who have mentioned Crabby walk down to the basement of the factory, which is the dark area down the stairs at the beginning of the building. She will give you a Lantern, and there, you will be able to head back to the beginning, go down the stairs and be able to see where you're going this time. You can walk on the big records to get back to the beginning more quickly.

Once you go through the double door, you'll find Crabby's minions, who reveal that the Happy Factory is actually going to be a polluting factory and that they will begin the operation once Crabby wins the election. This leads you fighting two Gremlins, much like the grunt at the beginning of the game. Just keep striking with physical attacks at this point. Each Gremlin gives you 30 Experience and 70 Gold.

When you win both battles, you'll get a Document exposing Crabby's plans, then you'll be able to leave the Record Factory. If you need to, head back to Teapot Village on the way back to Shishkebab to heal up and sell any excess items you don't need. From there, you'll need to head back to Condante Forest and talk to Professor Condante to give him the Debut Album. Condante will take the album and exchange it for the Crab family's Family Tree, but not before revealing that Crabby's name is nowhere to be found on it. With this and the Document, you can now expose Crabby's true identity. From here, you can head back to Shishkebab.

PrinceWatercress plays Great Greed - Part 4 of 28


In this entry, we explore more of the Kingdom of Sushi and find out that we have to do the most pointless of tasks in order to get the help we need.

From Shishkaburg, you'll want to go east. You'll still be fighting Eye Cakes and Ropers, but you'll also be fighting Sprouts. They are slightly stronger, but they are still a cakewalk if you're at Level 5, and they also give more experience and money (three experience, thirteen gold) than the other monsters. Just like the Eye Cakes and Ropers, Sprouts are also weak to Freeze, but you still don't have that yet, and even if you did have it, there would be no point in using magic against them if you can just whack them all once and win every time. You'll also be fighting the Spud Bud, which is strong against Freeze (not that it matters) and can also use Shove against you. If Shove hits, it does a little more damage than a regular attack. Spud Buds leave three experience and fifteen gold when defeated, and they also have a chance of dropping a Hat, which is the weakest headgear in the game.

At Teapot Village, you'll want to buy and equip the Leather Shield, as it is better than what you have right now. You'll also want to buy and equip the Helmet for the same reason. Don't forget to sell what you take off. In the village, you'll find out that a few people are coughing and that the forest to the south, and that there is a sad singing voice to the north, where the factory is, and that smoke is emanating from that factory.

Speaking of Freeze, you'll also be able to get it here. Freeze 1 costs 7 MP to cast and does Freeze damage, and can also temporarily stop the enemy with the Frozen status ailment. You can also fall victim to that status ailment, so be careful against any foes with magic.

Around Teapot Village, you'll face the Pop Pup. It is weak against against Flame magic, especially Flame 1, but it can easily be defeated if you keep smacking it with whatever weapon you have. They give two experience points and twelve gold, and they also have a chance of dropping a Knife. Since this is the weapon you started the game with, you don't need it, so sell it if you get it. The Pop Pup can also Dodge, which causes you to do less damage to it, should your attack connect. 

South of Teapot Village is the Condante Forest. This area is pretty straightforward; just head towards the big tree with the ladder in it. As for enemies, you'll meet a new one here: Pudinhead. This pudding with hands gives you five experience points and twenty gold when defeated, but it can also cast Drain, which can lower your attack power temporarily if it connects, and if it does connect, it does not go away until the battle ends. You'll want to take it out as quickly as possible, and being Level 6 will definitely help with that. 

You'll also face the Hedworm. The Hedworm gives you 6 experience points and 28 experience points, and at 64 HP, it has the most HP of all the enemies you've seen so far (minus the Bio-Haz Hunter grunt at the beginning of the game), making that experience worth it. While it was easy for me to beat up with physical attacks at Level 6, it is also weak to Freeze. I just stick to physical attacks.

Inside the big tree is Professor Condante, who wants nothing to do with you and does not want to help you until Cup Cake mentions her mission to expose Crabby for who he really is. The Professor reluctantly changes his mind and agrees to help under one condition: that we find Lola Leftover's debut album for his record collection at the abandoned record factory to the north, and in order to get through the entrance, which is rusted shut, you'll need to kick the bottom of the door. This will allow you to get into the factory. Wait, seriously? We're doing this? Right now?

After this, head back out of the forest, and if you need to, head back to Teapot Village to get ready for the factory to the north.

PrinceWatercress plays Great Greed - Part 3 of 28


In this entry, we take our first trek through the game's overworld map, show off the enemies we can fight along the way, and try to help a mayor win the election against a sketchy rich guy.

To the north of the first village of the game is Shishkaburg. Along the way, you'll face enemies.

The Roper gives you only one experience at twelve gold. If you reach Level 5, they won't be able to attack you at all. The Eye Cake can hit you for more damage, and gives you ten gold instead of the Roper's twelve, but if you're at Level 5, it won't attack you, either. Both enemies are weak to Freeze, even though you don't have that yet. The Eye Cake also has a chance of dropping a Med 1-5 scroll, although item drops are uncommon and do not always happen. The Ropes drop nothing, however.

At Shishkaburg, you'll find out that the town is in the middle of an election. Crabby is the challenger, while Cabbage is the incumbent mayor. So far, Crabby seems to be winning. Crabby is making promises regarding a favtor.

Teapot Village is to the east, Condante Forest is to the south of Teapot Village, and an abandoned record factory to the north. As a matter of fact, famed singer Lola Leftover's house is here, but Lola is not.

Sleep will put enemies to sleep, keeping them from doing anything. It costs 5 MP to use. The Sword and the Wood Armor is better than what you have. 

The house with the sign with the picture of the cabbage above it Mayor Cabbage's house. Cabbage wants to protect the natural beauty of the Land of Sushi. Meanwhile, Crabby's much bigger mansion is to the east of that and has a bigger picture of a crab on top. Unlike Cabbage, who has his wife with him, Crabby has four people in his mansion who love and adore him. There is also a girl off to the side, and if you talk to her before you leave, she will catch up with you back in the town. She will recognize Calorie's collar, and introduce herself as Cup Cake. She will tell you that Crabby is an agent of Bio-Haz, and that she needs your help exposing him. You might as well.

Cup Cake will join you. Head back to Cabbage's house, and you'll find out that Crabby is winning the election right now. In order to win back the villagers' trust, you'll need to fight five monsters outside of the town. Since we're at level five, this will be super easy. Cup Cake will cheer you on throughout the battle, but she will not do much else.

There is a whiteboard at the north end of town, and you can see that to see the current election results. Not like it matters. When you go to it after defeating five monsters, the tide will turn towards Cabbage's favor, but only for a moment, as Crabby wins the people by promising something good to anyone who comes to his home. If you go to Crabby's home and talk to the woman left of Crabby, she will offer you 100 gold, and you can take it. If you take it, however, something will happen later. 

Once you look at the whiteboard, you'll have to fight seven monsters in another attempt to win the people back. When you do that, go back to the whiteboard and look at it again. Once again, Cabbage will have the advantage, but it will only last for a moment, and Cup Cake says that the only way for Cabbage to win now is to expose Crabby's identity. She will mention that there is a professor specializing in family trees in family trees in Condante Forest to the southeast, and you'll have to get more info about Crabby from him.

PrinceWatercress plays Great Greed - Part 2 of 28


After getting Candy out of the castle, we gain some strength in the nearby undersea cave before walking around in our first town.

If you press Select, you can save the game at any time. You not only have three save slots, but you also have an autosave slot that saves your current situation frequently and can come in handy.

When you enter the underground cave, you won't be able to go back to the previous area. All you can do is head to the other side and fight the Roaches that are in the cave. They only give you one experience point and eight gold, but if you can get to Level 3, you'll not only be faster than the Roaches, but the Roaches cannot hurt you anymore. You'll want to be Level 5 before you leave the cave, as this will make it easier to level up with the enemies near the first town, which is coming up. You'll have to grind for about twenty minutes in this cave in order to do it, though.

During battles, you'll only fight one monster. You'll never fight a party of monsters; just the one. It is much like Dragon Quest in that regard. You'll also be doing all of the battling, and you won't have any allies, either. The left window shows anything that happens to the enemy as well as what the enemy is doing., while the right window shows what is happening to you and what you are doing. Below that, you have your HP and MP. If your HP goes down to zero, you are defeated, and you'll have to start back at your last save. Be careful.

When you leave the cave, Candy will leave you to head to Burger, then tells you to meet her younger sister Cup Cake in the land of Sushi. She will also give you Calorie's collar, then leave. You won't be able to go back, and the 

When you enter the town of Sushi, you'll see a few buildings. The one with the lantern sign is an inn, and it will always cost 15 gold to sleep in one. The one with the sword sign is an armory, but the one here has everything that was in the royal armory from earlier. At least you can sell off your old stuff, assuming you didn't drop any of it.

The building with the sign with the eye and the spiral on it is the magic shop. Heal 1 costs 2 MP will replenish 50 HP, while Flame 1 costs 5 MP is the weakest level of fire magic (out of four) and will be useful later. It can also cause the "Burning" status on enemies and do extra damage. Med 1 will also restore 50 HP, but instead of being a spell book like Heal 1 and Flame 1, it is in scroll spell and has charges. As a result, it does not use MP, but it has a limited amount of charges before it is used up. Med 1 is the name of the spell, while the 10 after the hyphen shows how many charges it has. "Med 1-10" means you have a Med 1 scroll that can be used 10 times before it is used up and gone from the scroll section of your inventory. It cannot be used in battle; instead, it can only be used outside of battle.

By talking to the NPC's here, you'll find out that the village of Shishkaburg is between the northern mountains. You'll be heading there next. You'll also find out that the sea water is cloudy, and that Shishkaburg is currently having an election for the next mayor.

PrinceWatercress plays Great Greed - Part 1 of 28


After playing through a big RPG, I play through another one. At least this one's smaller.

When you start the game, you'll be able to input your name. Only up to four characters are allowed, and it should be mentioned that everyone else's names are in all caps. If you want to see all the letters, just use Up and Down on the D-Pad. A accepts, B backs out. 

The story starts in the Kingdom of Greene, Microwave is fighting one of Bio-Haz's grunts. Microwave gets hurt and escapes into "The Third Dimension," which is Greene's terminology for the human world. In the human world, Sam (the default name for the character) and his dad are on a trip in the forest. Sam's dad goes out to check the acid rain levels in the forest, then Microwave shows up right in front of Sam. Approach Microwave by using the D-Pad, then press A to speak to her. Bio-Haz's grunt shows up as well, but Microwave teleports back to Greene and takes Sam with her. You'll end up on the Island of Royal Refuge.

Approach Microwave again and talk to her, and she will tell you to carry her to the forest. You'll need to, and from there, you'll need to head to the forest between the mountains on the east side of the forest. If you head here with Microwave, guards will be here to tell you to go away. If you do have Microwave with you, you'll be met by Princess Candy of Greene, who will let Microwave report to King Greene. She will tell the King that Bio-Haz, the main antagonist of the game, seems to have a power source in the human world, then introduces Sam. Sam is stuck here, as Microwave has been cursed by the grunt from earlier and must get the Magic Book in Burger, which is uner Bio-Haz's control.

Meanwhile, Princess Candy gets Sam up to speed on what is going on, then tells you to go see King Greene. Head to the doorway to the south, and you'll see Calorie the Dog, who is the royal family's faithful pooch and carrier of a collar that can carry the five princesses' most important items. Candy will tell you that her sisters are scattered throughout the kingdom and doing their part against Bio-Haz, then Calorie lets you through.

The guards will block the double doors to the south will be blocking the way out of the castle, and the door to the east of where you came in will contain other characters you will meet, such as Time Out, the royal administrator, and Lunch Box, the chief of the royal forces. The door to the right of that one contains weapons, but you won't be able to enter it until you meet King Greene. Instead, go up the nearby stairs and enter the throne room.

King Greene will tell Sam that he regrets what has happened, and Microwave says she will head to Burger to find the Magic Book and lift the curse on herself. Candy wants to accompany Microwave, but the King wants Candy to be ready to take his place in case something happens. Suddenly, the castle is under attack, and the King wants Sam to escape. On the way back downstairs, Bio-Haz's forces are attacking, and the grunt from earlier show up to fight Sam.

To beat the Gremlite, just keep pressing A. B lets you defend, while the D-Pad, which has a use in battle a little later on, will just cause you to skip your turn right now. You're better off just pressing A, as the game makes it that easy to get through the battle just by hitting him three times. After the battle, you'll immediately hit Level 2. Leveling up in this game is a full auto-heal for both HP and MP, so keep that in mind throughout the game.

After the battle, the grunt will run away, then Candy will mention that she is worried about her father. Head back upstairs to the throne room, and you'll find out that Calorie is dead. You'll then take Calorie's collar, which will prove useful later. Back in the throne room, you'll find out that the people of the human world are more powerful than those in Greene, and that everyone must leave the castle on the chance that Bio-Haz's forces return. Sam is tasked with taking Candy through the underwater tunnel north of the castle to the land of Sushi, and Microwave tells Sam to head to the weapons room in the castle and equip the armor and scrolls that he finds there. She also reminds you that healing spells can only be set to one button on the D-Pad.

At the weapons room, you'll find a Wood Shield, a Helmet, a Dagger, a Padder Amor and Heal 1. All of this is more powerful than what you have equipped right now, and Heal 1 can be set to Down (and only Down) on the D-Pad. You can do all of this in your status screen, which can be reached with the Start button. Item lets you use items, Scroll lets you equip scrolls, Misc. lets you see your special items, Status lets you see what you have equipped, and Party lets you talk to the person accompanying you as well as see how many experience points you need to reach the next level.

In the Item menu, you can press A on items and chose to use, equip or drop them. Anything equipped will have an asterisk next to it. Equip everything you found in the weapons room. Just remember you have to use each item one a a time and repeatedly enter the menu to do it. The Scroll menu works the same way as the Item menu, but you can equip spells. When you do that, you get another menu where you can set the music to one of four slots, which each slot intuitively showing which spell is equipped to which button on the D-Pad. The menu also tells you that healing magic can only be set to Down on the D-Pad, and this is where you will place Heal 1. To cast a spell, just press the direction on the D-Pad that you have assigned the spell to. If a spell is not equipped there, it counts as using a turn, and the enemy gets a free shot, which is something you don't want. To get out of the status screen, press B.

From here, you can leave the castle through the double doors and enter the nearby cave entrance leading into the undersea tunnel leading to Sushi.

PrinceWatercress plays Chrono Trigger (Super NES) - Part 70 of 70


Well, time to bring this to a close. I believe I've shown as much of this game as I can, as much as I love it to death. See you next Let's Play.


In this video, I do a couple of things. I show off the battle with Magus in 12,000 B.C., which is pretty easy. If you have Frog in your party, it will be Frog vs. Magus; otherwise, it will be your entire party vs. Magus. Magus will just have Lightning 2, Fire 2, Water 2 and the scythe attack. When you beat him, he will tell you about Gaspar and the Chrono Trigger, then die. The sparkle that is where he once stood is the Amulet, which anyone can equip to protect against status ailments.

I also get the Mop by Charming a Nu in the Hunting Range in 65,000,000 B.C. The Mop is even weaker than the Wood Sword, and is Crono's weakest weapon. It also has no slash animation.

I also get the Slasher 2 in this one. It is one of Crono's stronger weapons, but has no special effects added to it like increasing stats, protecting against anything, etc.

I beat Lavos with and without Magus, both times with the Epoch crashed into Lavos. The "Reunion" and "Beyond Time" endings, both with and without Magus, are similar to each other in every way except with the "Reunion" endings having the scene where Marle heads to Death Peak to get Crono back. Frog will only be in human (read: Glenn) form during the "Reunion" ending with Magus dead in 12,000 B.C.; neither the "Reunion" and "Beyond Time" endings without Magus with the Epoch crashed will not show Frog/Glenn in his human form. So you're not missing much in that department. 

Other things to mention:

The Boss Orb and Side Kick battle in the Black Omen does not let you use techs and items at all, even before Lock All is cast by the Boss Orb. The spell is just a formality and does absolutely nothing, as techs and items are turned off before the battle even begins. This is also true of the Turret battles on the Blackbird as well as any battles with Rubbles.

Azala is female. I mention it in another video, but I'm mentioning it in this blog entry. You don't get to see her pronouns in the Super NES English translation due to how Ted Woolsey had to do everything just to meet Nintendo of America standards; the DS version and beyond with the translation closer to the original Japanese text as well as the Super Famicom version do refer to Azala as female.

Ayla gets the Iron Fist at Level 72. It replaces the fist, has a different strike animation, and inflicts Chaos on any enemy upon landing a critical hit, should the enemy survive. She also gets the Bronze Fist at Level 90, which has a different strike animation and does 9999 damage upon landing a critical hit.

With that, that's all that there is to say about Chrono Trigger, which is my absolute summit of favorite games of all times. I will probably never find another game like it. I apologize for the long video, as I myself do not like long videos, but I had to do this to get it out of the way for other games. See you next Let's Play!

PrinceWatercress plays Chrono Trigger (Super NES) - Part 69 of 70


I think this is the first time I've ever gotten this version of the "Reunion" ending, because I've never gotten this variation of it at all!


In this version, stuff is the same except for a few things: The Epoch is used to penetrate Lavos' shell to skip to the final boss battle instead of all the other avenues, and Magus is still alive.

In this version of the ending, I had to find all the other party members, who are in the second screen of Leene Square will no explanation given beforehand, and press A when in front of them to get them to the Telepod before the ending can start. I did not expect this while playing, and it took me aback,  After Lucca brings out Gaspar and mentions that she tinkered with the Telepod, Gaspar will mention the Chrono Trigger and how it works regardless of whether you got it from him before you got this version of the ending. 

Afterwards. Lucca leaves with everyone else to head to Death Peak, while Marle stays behind for the revealing of Leene's Bell. When she grabs the balloons used to bring the bell up, she somehow flies all the way to Death Peak in 2300 A.D. and gets Crono back before anyone else shows up.

PrinceWatercress plays Chrono Trigger (Super NES) - Part 68 of 70


Now that I've played my way back through New Game Plus to get to this point, it's time to see how the game ends if you don't get Crono back.


I found out before the last video that the Nu in 12,000 B.C. that has to leave the building for you to get the tab behind him will only do so almost immediately after you enter the hut where you meet him. If it takes longer than that, go back and re-enter to try again.

The battle with Magus in 12,000 B.C. is pretty easy. All he does is use Lighting 2, Ice 2 and Fire 2 as well as attack with his scythe. If you have Frog in the party, it will be a one-on-one battle between Frog and Magus; otherwise, it will be Magus versus your whole party. When you beat Magus, he will tell you about Gaspar and the Chrono Trigger before he dies. There will also be a sparkle where he stood; press A on it to get the Amulet.

Once you make it back to The End of Time, you can get this ending. In this ending, Marle still wants to get Crono back, but everyone else, including Lucca, is uninterested. If you got the Chrono Trigger before getting this end, you will leave the Chrono Trigger with Gaspar before heading back to the Millenial Fair. If you didn't, you won't.

At The Millenial Fair, follow Lucca to the Telepod. Marle will mention that some sort of entity may have wanted them to go through this adventure - a statement similar to one made in the forest scene after you get Robo back during the Sunken Desert sidequest - then everyone will pop out of a portal near the Telepod. If you defeated Magus, Frog will be in human form and be Glenn again at this point. Also, if you did not get the Chrono Trigger at this point, Gaspar gives you the Chrono Trigger and tells you what it does. Everyone will suddenly be interested in getting Crono back, then Lucca gets the idea of using Epoch to get Crono back. Afterwards, you'll do the whole Leene's Bell placement again, and when Marle's father gets stuck, Marle leaves to get on the Epoch with Lucca and find Crono.

If Magus is defeated in 12,000 B.C., you'll see Frog's human form again. Instead of seeing Frog walking down Zenan Bridge with Queen Leene and numerous soldiers, you'll see him turn back to Glenn near a waterfall before seeing him with the King, Queen Leene and a few carpenters building the castle prison while Epoch flies by.

Near the end of the credits, instead of seeing the planet in Mode 7, you'll see Marle near a tree, where she waits until Crono appears in the distance and runs to him to get him back.

PrinceWatercress plays Chrono Trigger (Super NES) - Part 67 of 70


One more ending, and we'll finally cover the endings you can get with and without Crono.


For this ending, you'll need to get Schala to open the door to the throne room, then immediately head back to the End of Time and fight Lavos instead of powering up the pendant in the Mammon Machine. Once you power up the pendant, the way out will be blocked and you won't be able to get this ending. From that point until the Lavos battle at the Ocean Palace, you'll only be able to get the ending from the previous video.

In this ending, Lucca and Marle will make comments about random male NPC's in the game. Also, Crono talks a total of two times.

PrinceWatercress plays Chrono Trigger (Super NES) - Part 66 of 70


Now that we've beaten Azala, it's time for another ending.


As mentioned earlier in the Let's Play, Black Tyrano has a Power Tab and Azala has a Magic Tab. Also, I just now found out while making this entry that Azala is female, and while it is made clear in the original Japanese version and every version of the game from Nintendo DS onward (which uses a translation closer to the original Japanese and doesn't contain any Woolseyisms), it is not made known at all in the original American Super Nintendo release.

For the next ending, you'll need to beat Lavos after beating Azala, but before Schala opens the sealed door in Zeal Palace. This time around, I have Ayla back in the party, which means that more raw, destructive power is about to ensue.

When you beat Lavos at this point in New Game Plus, you'll see Magus back in 12,000 B.C. as the Prophet, heading to Ocean Palace without the interference of Crono and company taking place. Whether or not he actually beats Lavos is another matter entirely.

PrinceWatercress plays Sainte-Vibrisse - The Longplay


...and now, to show off all five endings, minus commentary! Enjoy!


Unlike other games that I've played for the channel, this one is made by friend of the channel Napostriouf aka Nap'n'Retrogaming for riggy2k3 and PhillyGameMechanics' "Spooky Surprises" Jam on itch.io. Napostriouf has asked me to play this as a special Let's Play of sorts, and I honestly felt honored to be asked to do this, so here we are.

This Let's Play (and longplay) are played with English version 1.01. While making this blog series, I also found out that there is an English version 1.02 as well as a Quebecois French version 1.02 which fixes a few bugs, one of which I may have shown off. If any of the English text seems a little odd, it's because Napostriouf is from Quebec and English is not his first language. (English is usually learned as a second language, which is far from an uncommon occurrence in Quebec to the point that it's considered a second official language in the province. WWE Superstar Kevin Owens learned English from watching WWE back in the day, while former WWE Superstar Maryse learned a bit of English during the 2006 WWE Diva Search and learned more of the language while she was in the company.)

I mention my lack of enthusiasm towards AI-generated art and music briefly in the title screen; it also extends to AI-generated video, for those wondering. It did not stop me from playing the game, though.

Arrow keys move you around, and Enter allows you to interact with things. You can enter the main menu with Page Up. Arrow keys choose, Enter selects/confirms, and Esc backs out. Interestingly, you can control the game with a wide variety of controllers, and for some reason, the PS1 controller that I had connected to my Mayflash USB controller hub for PS1, Saturn and N64 controllers was usable in the game as well.

The story begins with Marc-André Ste-Croix (Marc for short) and his daughter Chloé having a car breakdown on a rural road off the path of a national road on their way to a camping trip. After figuring out that Marc forgot to give the car an oil change which has caused it to overheat, Marc and Chloé - both of whom have been affected by Françoise, Marc's wife and Chloé's mother, committing suicide (with one of the endings mentioning that Chloé actually witnessed said suicide) - figure out what to do next, as they are unable to receive a cellphone signal and cannot call for a tow truck. Marc decides to walk further down the road and comes upon the entrance to a village known as Sainte-Vibrisse, and decides to enter the village, even though Chloé has a bad feeling about things. From here, you have control of Marc and Chloé. 

When Marc and Chloé enter the village, they notice a convenience store...and a lot of cats. Marc decides to enter the convenience store and call for a tow truck on a landline phone. From here, you can choose what to do. 

East of the store is a large cross, a farm, more of the parking lot, as well as some of the few human children who live in the city, who are surrounded by angry cats. The two smaller crosses you can interact with are monuments to the author Napostriouf's two cats.

Speaking of cats, you can interact with the cats in the game, and you can get different sounds depending on which cats you interact with.

If you interact with the trash can and decide to rummage around in it, you'll find an AI-generated picture of a Cat Jesus. Aside from the title screen, this is the only other AI-generated thing (that I know of) that is in the game. Everything else comes from something else and is sourced in the end credits. This is entirely optional and has no bearing on any of the gameplay or any of the game's endings.

Other things you can interact with in front of the convenience store are the grapes in front of the store, the stop sign, the drink machine and the ATM.

There are four endings and five paths in which to get them all. I show them all off here.

Stay Safe Ending

After the dialogue outside of the convenience store, you can head back to the road outside of the village and head west. If you do that, you'll hear Marc's inner thoughts where Marc decides where to go back to the village or stay safe in the car. You'll then get a choice as to what you want to do. If you stay in the car with the camping equipment, you'll get the Stay Safe Ending.

If you leave the road where the car stops and come back, the car will not be in the same position as where it stopped at the beginning of the game; instead, it will be all the way to the far left. You cannot interact with the car in any way.

Happy Cats Ending

There are two paths to this ending. When you enter the convenience store, Marc will wonder why there is a young girl at the counter, and Chloé starts having even more misgivings about being in Sainte-Vibrisse, as being in the supermarket starts to remind her of the dream she had after her mom died when she burned her and her father alive.

Eventually, you'll have to make a choice, both of which lead to the same ending, albeit with slight differences depending on which path you choose.

If you choose to call a tow truck, you can explore the convenience store and look at everything (including the cash register, which reveals that Marc has went to jail before) before talking to the girl at the counter. When you talk to the girl at the counter, Marc and Chloé start finding out that not everything is as it seems, especially when there is no phone to make a phone call from, but it is too late. The cats act as if they are possessed and surround Chloe while Marc is run out of the store, where the kids on the other screen show up sobbing with leashes around their necks surrounding him, with the non-collar ends being held by the cats themselves.

It becomes very apparent to Marc that the children are being enslaved against their will by the cats, who seem to have a mind of their own, and that the children are enslaved to treat the cats like literal village kings until they turn 18, after which they are sacrificed and killed. Marc finds this out the hard way when he is beaten unconscious with a nailbat and nailed to a cross, while Chloé is kidnapped and forced not only into servitude under the Kings of Sainte-Vibrisse, but into denouncing her human life and relations and setting fire to the cross - with a barely conscious Marc nailed to it - with gasoline and a match in order to pledge loyalty to the cat. Marc, unable to do anything while nailed to the cross as it is about to be set on fire, hopes for Chloé to stay strong and eventually escape servitude as well as the hellish nightmare she is about to endure.

If you choose to leave the store without making a call, the kids show up and surround Marc and Chloé as they are about to get back on the road leading to the village. Chloé is forcefully kidnapped and taken through the trees by one of the children before Marc is beaten with a nailbat before being nailed to a cross that is set on fire. The dialogue and events between these two versions of the ending are largely the same.

Flee While You Can Ending

Believe it or not, if you go all the way to the right on the road where the car breaks down, you can find an abandoned dog. If you talk to it, Marc will reluctantly allow Chloé - who names the dog Poilu - to keep the dog around in case the dog's owner does not show up, so they can adopt the dog later. The dog will then join the party as a third member, and this will affect the convenience store endings slightly. This does not change anything about the "Stay Safe" ending at all, which is why I do not do it again with the dog.

If you leave the convenience store without making a phone call, the cats will strike as soon as Marc and Chloé step out. Marc and Chloé will get away, but Poilu will not be so lucky and become an unfortunate victim of the evil cats. Marc and Chloé head back to the car to camp out and head back onto the national road the next morning.

Purrfect Ending

On the other hand, if you decide to make the phone call in the convenience store with Poilu in the party, the dialogue will be the same as if you did not have Poilu in the party, but this time, you'll have some additional dialogue where Poilu gets scared and runs away, with Marc chalking it up as Poilu being scared due to Chloé scared and blaming it on the dog's abandonment issues. Other than that, the rest of the ending is exactly the same.

And there you have it: the roads to all five endings! All in all, this was a short, fun, little game, and I enjoyed it for what it was. It's a short yet fun experience that fits the "Spooky Surprises" theme pretty well, and the fact that there are multiple endings in an already short game is a nice touch. If you have the time and the chance, definitely check this one out.

Man, Frog Flare is powerful if you know what you're doing.


For the next ending, you'll need to fight Lavous after you beat Magus, but before you beat Azala. I do this before getting Ayla back in the party at the Dactyl Nest to further ensure that I get this ending.

It's amazing what the PrismSpecs can do. Frog Flare can do a ton of damage if Frog's HP is low enough.

When you beat Lavos, you'll get a re-telling of the intro where all the humans are Reptites. The Green Ambler ends up being a human, but why they're not a caveman is beyond me.

In a rare instance that I usually don't do due to having more than enough games lined up to play, friend of the channel Napostriouf has asked me to play a game he's made for a "Spooky Surprises Jam" on itch.io just in time for Halloween. I liked what I saw, so here we are. Happy late Halloween, people.

This time around, we have Frog in the party for the final battle. This makes things a little interesting...


For the next ending, you'll need to fight Lavos after you give the Masamune to Frog and before you fight Magus.

Since I sold all of Frog's weapons NOT named the Masamune for a big stock of HyperEthers for the final battle with Lavos, I made things a little harder for myself. Somehow, I managed to save myself a little bit with a good use of Frog Squash or two.

The next ending has Frog heading back to 600 A.D. after the defeat of Lavos to face Magus.
